Coming out to the roar of thunder and simulated lighting, the iconic band The Cure took to the stage at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the first time in seven years. As the sold out crowd applauded their return, the band went into a powerful instrumental intro to “Alone”.
Walking around the stage at a very slow pace, Lead Singer Robert Smith looked out into the crowd, at times seeming to be gazing into every fans eyes. All while dressed in his traditional black, some white face makeup, heavy black eyeliner, and red lipstick.
Over the roughly next two hours and 45 minutes the band played their way through forty years of musical history. Going through a massive 29 song set with songs like “Pictures of You”, “Lovesong”, “Friday I’m in Love” and “Endsong”.
One thing was clear this night, Robert Smith and the rest of the band brought with them the best of The Cure’s catalog that sounded as excellent as the albums they picked from, with Smith’s voice sounding as it did 40 years ago.
