When the Freaks on Parade tour featuring Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie rolled into Freedom Mortgage Pavilion at Camden, the excitement was palpable. Fans had been eagerly anticipating this legendary show, and it did not disappoint. The Pavilion was buzzing with energy as rock enthusiasts from near and far gathered to witness two of the biggest names in shock rock take the stage.
Alice Cooper is a true pioneer of shock rock, having paved the way for countless artists with his theatrical performances and boundary-pushing music. He entered the stage cutting through a newspaper frontpage that proclaimed him “Banned in New
Jersey,” before launching into the set opening intro of “Lock Me Up.” The crowd erupted in cheers, knowing they were in for a show like no other. From his signature guillotine prop to his unforgettable hits like “School’s Out” and “Poison,” Alice Cooper‘s set was a thrilling trip down memory lane for fans of all ages. Whit his all star band featuring guitarists Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henriksen and Nita Strauss‘, bassist Chuck Garric and drummer Glen Sobel, they delivered an unforgettable show.
Through the night, Cooper used a variety of props, from a cane to a horse riding crop to a crutch to a saber. Jason Vorhees from the “Friday the 13th” movie series made an appearance during “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” to stab a fan. A giant
Frankenstein’s monster hit the stage on “Feed My Frankenstein.”
Cooper closed with a celebratory “School’s Out” . As bubbles drifted from both sides of the stage, confetti-filled balloons floated through the crowd, with Cooper seemingly eager to pop them.
Rob Zombie is no stranger to putting on a show. With his unique blend of horror imagery and heavy metal sound, he captivated the Camden audience from the moment he stepped into the spotlight. Hits like “Dragula” and “Living Dead Girl” had fans headbanging and singing along, proving once again why Rob Zombie is a master of horror metal. His stage presence and larger-than-life persona made for a performance that was equal parts creepy and captivated.
Zombie used a variety of mic stands, from a goathead with flashing red eyes to a gnarled, six-armed skeleton to a 10-pointed star. The stage had outstanding visuals and a lot of pyro bringing the heat up at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion.
An explosive “Feel So Numb” led to “Well, Everybody’s (expletive) in a U.F.O.,” which saw the first of several oversized puppets ,a gorilla body with a deep sea diver’s head, massive inflatable robot behind the drums and others that appeared later included a demonic red creature in “The Lords of Salem” and a different demonic
creature for “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition).” He closed the night with one of my personal favorite songs “Dracula”.
After witnessing the powerhouse performances of Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie in Camden, it’s clear that their influence on the music industry is as strong as ever. Both artists continue to push boundaries and captivate audiences with their larger-than-
life personas and electrifying music. The legacy they have built over the years is undeniable, and their performance in Camden only solidified their status as shock rock legends.
As the final notes faded away and the crowd slowly made their way out of the venue, one thing was clear: the Freaks on Parade tour featuring Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie was a night to remember. From the heart-pounding music to the jaw- dropping theatrics, this show had it all. If you ever have the chance to catch these shock rock legends live in concert, don’t hesitate. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
